About the artist
The underlying themes of my work centre on notions of how the individual experiences life and the surrounding world in relation to the self. I often work towards finding a balance or understanding through the use of contrasts or extremes, and this idea is echoed through the themes I explore and physical processes I use. Over the past 2 years I have been using digital video/animation techniques in conjunction with more traditional processes through drawing and painting, this has created new dimensions and pathways to my practice.

About the work
The work I have submitted describes 3 events surrounding the death of a man named Geng Yaoting. I came to be a witness of these events from a particularly vivid dream, and through making this work I have tried to translate the information that I felt was most important. I chose to explore this experience not so much through a specific interest in working from dreams, more that the subject and the images of this particular dream resonated within me to the extent of feeling great necessity to translate and document them. Although I do not have a general need to translate my dreams in this way, I am interested in the ways that dreams often contain a complexity of information that appears completely logical within the dream, yet often illogical upon the point of waking/reflection (from a perspective within the physical, rational, waking world). The specific techniques I've used to make the animation involve a combination of oil paintings on acetate and digital animation using Adobe After Effects and Stoik Morph Man. www.tallonebehind.co.uk richfh@hotmail.com
